Redskins Fan Sports Redface – RG3 won’t be Traded by Team

Washington fan in redface*Looks like one sports fan didn’t get the memo about the issues surrounding his favorite team’s name.

The New York Daily News reports that an unidentified Washington fan arrived at MetLife Stadium for the team’s game against the New York Giants on Thursday (Sept. 24), wearing redface and a black ponytail wig with feathers tucked in it. According to someone that attended the game, the fan was wearing a Ryan Kerrigan jersey and didn’t interact with Giants fans who were clearly put off by what the fan sported.

“He was sitting a few seats away and a lot of people were talking about how inappropriate and just plain old wrong it was,” a fan, who didn’t want to be identified, told the Daily News. “But I didn’t see anyone confront him.”

News of the fan’s attire at the game comes as Washington deals with lawsuits from Native American groups over the team’s name and logo, which they consider to be offensive and disparaging. Despite the uproar, recent polls find fans in favor of keeping the Redskins team name.

rg3As the Washington team name controversy continues, things look to be solid for Robert Griffin III, despite being demoted to third string quarterback.

According to CBS SportsJason La Canfora, Washington has no plans to trade Griffin, who lost his starting position to Kirk Cousins at the end of training camp. The switch came after Griffin suffered a concussion in Week 2 of the preseason.

Canfora goes on to mention that the team’s intent on keeping Griffin around stems from an effort to keep its QB depth in what appears to be “a wide open NFC East.” Although Griffin was originally cleared to return for the next game, the NFL’s independent neurologist squashed that after changing his mind and deciding the quarterback wasn’t ready.

Griffin’s current status comes as Washington starts the season at 1-2 this year. SBNation notes that it’s been a battle for Cousins as he went 30 of 49 for 316 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the team’s 32-21 loss to the Giants on Thursday.
