*With all the craziness that went down at the 2015 MTV Music Video Awards on Sunday, it may have slipped people’s minds that Rihanna was nowhere to be found at the annual show.

Instead, she ended up watching the VMAs from afar as she spent the weekend taking in the wedding of her good friend and stylist Sonya Benson‘s wedding in New York. Although she wasn’t on hand to witness Kanye West getting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and his 13-minute long acceptance speech, RiRi did weigh in on the rapper’s commentary and his political aspirations of wanting to be the commander-in-chief.

“And, yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for President,” West said at the end of his speech.

For Rihanna, the support is there for her “FourFiveSeconds” collaborator, despite missing his big announcement and the spectacle of the VMA’s.

“I did watch! I did watch! I wish I could have been there. But my home girl got married in New York so I couldn’t, but it was great,” Rihanna told E! Online about West’s speech. “I love seeing him like that. I love seeing him in that raw, honest state.”

For Rihanna, seeing Benson tie the knot was a memorable occasion that she expressed her happiness for on social media.

“Yasss!!!! Congrats to my beautiful and crazy @sonyabens on tying da knot!!!” Rihanna wrote on Instagram on Saturday. “F–king love you girl!!! James you the real mvp doe! #jimmysonz.”

Chatting with E! News, insiders noted that Rihanna performed her song, “Bitch Better Have My Money” during the wedding and led guests into doing the Macarena and dancing along to Silentó’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).”

“Rihanna gave a fun, emotional speech,” the insiders said. “She talked about their relationship, how they met when she was 17 and that Sonya was one of the first friends she made that really influenced her in fashion.”

With West throwing his hat into the political arena, the big question is will Rihanna vote for her musical ally?

“We’ll see!” she answered E! while smiling. “2020? I hope he really does!”
