*Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s been in the ring for some 19 years as a pro and so far no one has come up with the solution and diagnosis to solve the puzzle that could bring that one loss that could cause a blemish to occur on his record.
He’s fought quite a number of boxing’s best, from the likes of Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corralles, Oscar De La Hoya , Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley, Zab “Super” Judah, and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez just to name a few (I could have gone on and named some more folks, but it wouldn’t do any good).
You just put a man in front of him and the likely hood of him losing is slim and none. He’s got more talent than Carter has liver pills.
And as he entered the ring last Saturday night he was facing a game tough and rugged Andre Berto the former IBF and WBA world champion. This was to be his last and final appearance and as this one began in the first round it showed the elements of something that was going to be a blast.
Folks, I got to tell you something, this actually turned into a very competitive fight inspite of Mayweather’s dominance throughout the bout. There were some instances when Berto was connecting with some really solid shots, and then there were other times when he seemed like he just was just holding back. He even admitted at the post fight press that he should’ve threw more shots to the body rather than go for the head. And at the end of twelve, all three judges scored it for the ” Money” man
It’s this writer’s opinion that at the end of the day, he did well for himself in spite of losing to a great champion who says that the curtain has finally come down on his career in the ring ( only God knows the truth ). Whatever the case, Mayweather has earned enough money to last him a very long time and keep his family fed.
Of the many stars and celebrities on hand at the fight one standout was comedian Katt Williams all decked out on the red carpet.
As for Andre Berto, he’s still a game opponent for any of the guys out there, especially those fighters with Premiere Boxing Champions like Keith Thurman, and Danny”Swift” Garcia just to name a few.
But don’t forget there’s still a guy named Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley that I think they’re all trying to avoid who would make a great fight for any of them. As I always say, we’ll see what happens.
I’d like to take a moment to wish my good friend Bill Caplan a happy birthday. He’s now 80 years younger and doesn’t look like he’s ready to quit. In case some of you don’t know, Bill is the long time publicist for former two time world heavyweight champion “Big” George Foreman and has been with him since the days of the “Rumble In The Jungle.” Bill is still in the game now working with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions. Bill, I hope you make it into another 80 years, keep on pushing my man!
And now that Mayweather vs Berto has come and gone, we’ve still got two big fights headed our way with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and David Lemieux going at it with Golovkin’s middleweight title on the line. This one’s going to be in New York at Madison Square Garden on October 17 and will be followed up the next month on November 21 with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto out in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay. Both fights will be telecast live on HBO pay per view so make sure you got your popcorn ready.
