Serena Highlighted with Inspirational Commercial and Mural (WATCH)

Serena Williams mural*The legacy of Serena Williams goes beyond her athletic achievements on the tennis court as Gatorade honors the tennis great with commissioning an inspiring new mural and debuting a new commercial starring the tennis champ as a young girl in Compton.

The mural, which was part of Gatorade’s “Serena 21” art series, was created to honor Williams’ 21 Grand Slam Championships. Artists from Overall Murals painted the mural, which was done on the corner of Kent Ave and Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The series showcases 21 paintings which individually shine a light on a historic moment in Williams’ career.

Adding to the artwork is Gatorade’s new “Serena 21”commercial, which opens with a reporter asking the young Williams, “If you were a tennis player, who would you want to be like?”

As the commercial continues, highlights and footage of Williams’ life and career, including victories and battles, are shown.

“If you were a tennis player, who would you want to be like?” the reporter inquires in audio at the end of the commercial.

“Well, I’d like other people to be like me,” the young Williams says.
