*Good intentions resulted in betrayal, according to Jessica Bartholomew, the surrogate for Sherri Shepherd and her now ex-husband Lamar Sally.
In a recent interview Bartholomew opened up about Shepherd’s refusal to accept the child she had for the couple, Lamar Jr., after agreeing to be a surrogate for them. According to Bartholomew, things started out fine as she believed Shepherd and Sally were ready for children as they appeared to be so in love with each other.
Rather than fully embrace Lamar Jr., Shepherd ultimately distanced herself from the child and left Bartholomew holding the bag. In Bartholomew’s eyes, not only did Shepherd abandoned her, but she has abandoned her own child, too.
“I will never help another mother have a baby,” the angry surrogate mother said. “Sherri put me and my family through so much emotionally and almost ruined me financially so I will never trust anyone to go through that again,” Bartholomew said. “I wanted to help her because she couldn’t have a child of her own and it was supposed to be a beautiful thing. But it turned out to be a nightmare.”
Although she’s knows the positives of being a surrogate, with helping a couple who couldn’t have children, Bartholomew has a different opinion regarding her experience with Shepherd, who she feels nothing but betrayal.
“I couldn’t believe it. Sherri knew I was a waitress and a single mother but she didn’t care, she just walked away and let them demand support from me when she was the one who wanted this child,” Bartholomew stated. “I was helping her and this is how she repaid me. I will never, ever go through this again.”
Despite what happened with Shepherd, Bartholomew mentioned that she is hopeful that Lamar Jr., who is now one-year-old, will receive nothing but the best.
“But in spite of everything I hope it all works out for Lamar and the baby and I hope Sherri realizes what she has done and becomes a real parent to LJ,” Bartholomew said. “One day he is going to be an adult and may ask Sherri why she didn’t want to be his mother.”
