*After “The Mindy Project” was canceled by Fox following its third season, streaming service Hulu not only swooped in to give it a fourth, but increased the episode order to 26.

Beloved by critics and its cult following – including Loretta Devine’s character on “The Carmichael Show,” who spent a considerable amount of time in one episode trying to find Hulu on her TV – “The Mindy Project” follows obstetrician/gynecologist Mindy Lahiri, played by creator Mindy Kaling, as she attempts to balance her personal and professional life, surrounded by co-workers in a small NYC medical practice.

Cast member and writer Ike Barinholtz told TV critics last month that the tone of the show will not change, despite being free from network constraints.

“I think if we really changed the show too much and made it more risqué and kind of put it more on a tilt towards stuff you might find on HBO or Showtime, I think we would maybe turn off some of our core viewers,” Barinholtz said. “So we’ve really kind of made a conscious effort to keep it similar in tone, but there is a freedom where every once in a while, it’s great to have a scene that ends and Mindy be like, ‘God dammit.’”

“I mean, at FOX, God bless them, but one time I said in a scene, ‘Jesus, you’re strong,’ referring to Ellie Kemper’s character, and FOX said, ‘Well, you can’t say “Jesus.” And in ADR, we said, ‘Jeez, you’re strong,’ and they said you can’t say ‘jeez’ either and we were like, ‘What are we doing?'”
