TV One #1 Among Black Viewers; Welcomes Back Rickey Smiley

Tv One logo*It’s good to be TV One nowadays as the station is ranked number one as the top primetime cable network among Black Viewers in all key demographics.

A bit of this stems from TV One’s Wednesday night line-up of shows which includes “Unsung,” “Hollywood Divas” and “Born Again Virgin.” The trio’s success has placed the network among the top three ad-supported cable networks for Black women between the ages of 25-54 between July and September, NewsOne.com reports, citing TV One.

TV One’s number one ranking comes as the channel welcomes Rickey Smiley back into its program roster with “Rickey Smiley For Real,” a new reality show that features the funnyman balancing the time he spends in Atlanta taping his radio and TV shows on weekdays with spending most of his weekends in his hometown of Birmingham.

Rickey-SmileyAccording to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, production for the “Rickey Smiley For Real” has already started as filming will split between Birmingham and Atlanta.

Those featured in the show include Smiley’s sons Brandon and Malik and adopted daughters D’Essence, and Aaryn as well as his “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” radio cohorts (co-host Da Brat, sidekicks Gary Wit Da Tea, HeadCrack and Juicy, producer Beyonce Alowishus), and extended family of co-workers, colleagues and friends.

Smiley’s return to TV One comes years after he starred in two seasons of the network’s sitcom “The Rickey Smiley Show” in 2012 and 2013. Atlanta-based Bobbcat Films, which produced the scripted show, is on board to produce “Rickey Smiley For Real.”

Regarding his shift to reality TV, Smiley mentioned the advantage of showcasing his professional and personal life “warts and all.”

“After two seasons of working with the ‘ins and outs’ of a scripted series while balancing my radio hosting responsibilities and my personal life, I realized the effort was redundant,” he said in a statement. “There was a better opportunity to share through a reality lens – showing warts and all – my efforts to maintain a satisfactory professional and personal life as a single father and entrepreneur.”

“Rickey Smiley For Real” is set to premiere in November on TV One.
