TV One Orders 2nd Season of Surprise Hit ‘Born Again’ Virgin’

Eva Marcille

*TV One has ordered a 12-episode second season for its scripted comedy series “Born Again Virgin.”

The order comes on the heels of week-to-week ratings gains in the key demo of women 18-34, Deadline reports.

The series chronicles the ups and downs of dating for a newly celibate single woman and her friends who help manager her celibacy.

Danielle Nicolet plays Jenna, a writer who decides to blog about her decision to become celebrate after years of failed relationships. With the help of her gal pals, publicist Kelly (Meagan Holder) and budding actress Tara (Eva Marcille), she shares her exploits via her new blog. Donovan (Durrell “Tank” Babbs) is their hot neighbor who makes staying off The D nearly impossible for Jenna.

“Given its provocative premise and smart storytelling, our confidence in “Born Again Virgin” as a dynamic addition to our Wednesday primetime lineup was solid even before the first episode aired,” TV One’s SVP, Original Programming and Production, D’Angela Proctor, told Deadline.

She added, “The continual character development, strong writing and topical humor combined with key demo weekly ratings gains and strong social engagement confirm the show’s ability to deliver new and younger audiences.”

Last month, Eva Marcille chatted with Roland Martin on NewsOne Now to discuss the season premiere of “Born Again Virgin.” She said the show “has nothing to do with your religion. It’s all about a tactic as far as having a relationship.”

“Anybody over the age of 30 has been a born again virgin at least once — At least should have … Women are usually most likely the voluntary ones and men are the involuntary born again virgins,” Eva said.

The winner of the third cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” also expressed how important “Born Again Virgin” is to viewers.

“They need to know how we look at ourselves and how we see ourselves and how we deal with our friends from our perspective,” she said. “I think a lot of times on television we either go very stereotypical as it pertains to the African-American community and culture, or we’re that one token — And this show is so amazing because you get to see yourself, your mom, your sister, your brothers, your friends — It’s so us and it’s like the first time I’ve worked on a show that was so us.”

“Born Again Virgin” airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c. Season 2 is slated to premiere in early 2016.
