*A health scare rocks The Johnson family in tonight’s episode of “Black-ish” titled “Dr. Hell No,” which finds Dre traumatized after getting his yearly physical.

When Pops explains he hasn’t seen a doctor in years, primarily due to his generation’s reluctance and trust issues with healthcare providers, Dre and Bow try to convince him to get a check-up and he reluctantly agrees.

When Pops learns he has a clogged artery and needs a small procedure, the rest of The Johnson family handles the news in different ways. It’s yet another episode sure to trigger dialogue in your family, and this time about men’s health.

Check out a clip from the episode below.

“Dr. Hell No” aims to encourage men, especially black men, to take their health more seriously and don’t be so quick to self-diagnose. Once again, the writers know how to approach a serious subject with the type of warmheartedness that evokes an active response, one that could prove life changing.

There’s a tender moment that Dre shares with Pops toward the end of the episode which triggered fond memories of this reviewer’s own father, who also shared Pop’s views about doctors.

EURweb recently visited the set of the hit ABC comedy and chatted with series co-star and overall legend, Laurence Fishburne, about the episode and the importance of black men being conscious of their health.

“I know that the writers had to discuss this theme that is common in our community,” Laurence told EURweb, when asked if “men’s health” was a specific topic the writers aimed to touch on this season.

“I’m a man in his 50’s and I have been going to doctor regularly,” Laurence said. “I have an annual check up that is comprehensive,  that includes checking my prostate, my heart, my blood pressure, blood work, lungs, liver. The whole spectrum. I’ve been doing that for more than ten years, cause I don’t want to be a statistic, and there’s no guarantee that I won’t be, but knowledge is power. ”

Check back soon for more from our exclusive interview with Mr. Fishburne and the cast of “Black-ish.”

“Black-ish” airs tonight and every Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
