Comedy Series on First Black TV Game Show Model in Development

Kathleen JoAnn Bradley

*Showtime is developing a new half-hour comedy series titled “36-24-36,” about the first black TV model to be featured on the long-running daytime game show “The Price Is Right.”

Executive produced by author/screenwriter/playwright Delia Ephron and producer Debra Martin Chase, the title refers to what had been considered “ideal” female model measurements, and will highlight the celebrity, job insecurity, racism and misogyny the four models known as “Baker’s Beauties” endured on the No. 1 game show of the ’90’s, Deadline reports.

The primary focus of the series will be Kathleen JoAnn Bradley – the first full-time black Baker Beauty from 1990-2000.  She was terminated from the game show in October 2000, after testifying in a lawsuit against host Bob Barker, who had sued one of his beauties, Holly Hallstrom for slander and defamation of character, after she refused to conspire with him against another model who had sued Barker for sexual harassment. Barker lost his suit against Hallstrom and afterward fired Bradley along with model Janice Pennington, and other show staffers, whose testimony contradicted his. Kathleen released her memoirs, “Backstage at ‘The Price Is Right’ – Memoirs of a Barker Beauty,” in June 2014. She will serve as a consultant on the series.

In addition to her gig as a “Barker Beauty,” the former model/actress has appeared on stage – playing the lead in the musical comedy/drama “Charlene,” and then appearing in the 1940s style musical/comedy “Color of the Blues.” Bradley has had guest starring roles on numerous TV shows including “Good Times,” “Amen,” “A Different World,” “General Hospital,” and “The Redd Foxx Show.” She also appeared in films “Harlem Nights,” “Troop Beverly Hills” and “Perfume,” which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay by the NAACP Image Awards. Fans of the 1995 comedy “Friday,” starring Ice Cube may remember her as the seductive neighbor Mrs. Parker.

Charles Pugliese of Martin Chase Production serves as producer on “36-24-36.” The company is currently in production on “Zoe Ever” After, as EUR previously reported, the series is a romantic comedy starring Brandy for BET.
