DeRay McKesson Throws Jeb Bush’s ‘Free Stuff’ Claim Back at Him

Deray-McKesson-Jeb-Bush*Jeb Bush’s comments about Democrats offering “free stuff” to African Americans in exchange for support on the campaign trail is being thrown back at him by #BlackLivesMatter activist DeRay McKesson.

During a recent appearance on “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore,” McKesson turned the tables on Bush while pointing out how “legacy” equates to “free” for the Republican presidential hopeful.

“If ‘free’ means you’ve gotten something you haven’t paid for, he comes from a legacy — he hasn’t earned the stuff that he has,” McKesson said. “What we’ve seen from the Republicans is that they haven’t talked about race beyond immigration. That there’s, like, literally no language there yet.

“They talk about, like, God, family and country — but it’s God until it’s about poor people; it’s family until family it’s, like, same-sex and inclusive; and it’s country until it involves Black people,” he later added.

McKesson isn’t the only one giving a thumbs down to Bush’s comments. For Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, Bush and the Republicans are way off base with their assessment of the situation.

“I think people are seeing this for what it is: Republicans lecturing people of color instead of offering real solutions to help people get ahead, including facing up to hard truths about race and justice in America,” Clinton said on Facebook.

BET.com notes that Clinton and her fellow presidential contender Bernie Sanders have been the only ones taking note of the concerns of Black Lives Matter movement supporters. In recent months, the candidates have met with several activists connected with the movement.
