I’m trying to read the mind of Doris Payne, the 85-year-old African American self-proclaimed international jewel thief and subject of the 2013 documentary, “The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne.” Â She was just arrested in the Buckhead section of Atlanta for slipping a pair of earrings in her pockets and politely walking out of the store.
But the moisture in those slippery fingers have apparently dried up because over her 60-year-heist-history, Payne has gotten away with so much more. So at this point she must be thinking, what the hell??
