The African American Vanguard Awards event was founded by Lord, Bush and Randolph (LBR)  to recognize African American’s who have made a positive impact on the City of Los Angeles and surrounding communities. This year LBR partnered with the Los Angeles Chapter OF the National Action Network (NAN-LA), to honor the achievements of these esteemed individuals.

Among the honorees  that received prestigious awards were President Areva Martin who received the 2015 African American Vanguard Meryvn Dymally Excellence Award for her work on civil rights and autism advocacy.

The night was illuminated by a live performance by American Idol Jacob Lusk, who says that “You should always live your life as though people are watching you, famous or not.”

Keisha C. Nix Executive Director of The Lakers Youth Foundation says,” According to statistics as a single mother she should not be where she is today, but she doesn’t pay attention to those kind of statistics.”

This was a night filled with inspiration and love for the community. A great night for a great cause. With this kind of leadership and determination in our communities the possibilities are endless.
