october film festival

Executive staff of the 2015 October Film Festival speaking to journalist.

*If you were lucky enough to get to the 3rd Annual Ocktober Film Festival then you witnessed what has become one of the best kept film festival secrets in New York City, if not the entire east coast of the United States.

Yes, it’s that real. Founded by television producer Emelyn Stuart in 2012, the Ocktober Film Festival has continually grown over the years and has drawn some top flight talent and top of the line feature films, short films and music videos as well.

This year’s festival took place at the historic Poet’s Den Gallery and Theater in East Harlem, its intimate screening area and modestly numbered seats were reminiscent of the Harlem Renaissance that blossomed not very far from that location decades earlier.

The festival opened with1 a star-studded reception attended by industry insiders and such veteran thespians as Clifton Davis and Taral Hicks and ran for five days, as opposed to the three day Ocktober Film Festival from last year.

Hill Harper won the Entertainment Business Award and gave a rousing speech about the importance of the recognition, and how necessary it is to hone one’s abilities before submitting them for film festivals, or to actors.

Check out festival founder Emelyn Stuart discuss her favorite parts, and a photo montage of the events exclusive parties.
