Fans Blast Nicki Minaj’s Narcissistic Reaction to Zendaya’s Barbie

Nicki Minaj

*Nicki Minaj pulled the ultimate hater move over the weekend as she attempted to steal a bit of Zendaya Coleman’s sunshine when she took to social media to remind the Disney star that she’s not the only one to be immortalized by Mattel, and it’s not as if Zendaya was even checking for Nicki.

When Zendaya revealed that the toy giant created a Barbie doll in her likeness, fans on social media showered her with congratulations. However, Minaj received several side-eyes from fans of both artists when she addressed the milestone to shift focus from Coleman’s doll and on to her own Barbie.

“Congrats on your doll, Zendaya!” Minaj posted on Instagram. “Did u know Barbie made me one a cpl years back? It was such an honor & a HUGE surprise. Anyway, I love your doll’s hair! I love what it means for other little girls who will identify with it & be empowered. Continue to be proud of yourself girls!!!!! #Barbie”

Minaj was heavily criticized for using Coleman’s moment to talk about herself, and as The Grio reports, even more peculiar is that she chose to feature a picture of her own Barbie doll instead of Zendaya’s in the post.

Of course, we love how one Zendaya fan reminded Nicki that she “got a Barbie for trying to look like one,” while “Zendaya got a Barbie because she’s showing young girls to embrace their culture.”

As we previously reported, Mattel honored the young actress with her own Barbie because they admired how she encouraged girls to “raise their voices,” and for inspiring individuals to be themselves.

“I’m excited to be a part of the new direction the Barbie brand is headed, specifically how they are celebrating diversity in the line and encouraging kids to raise their voices,” Zendaya said in a statement. “It’s a positive message to send to my fans, including my nieces who are coming with me to the concert.”

‘When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed. Thank you @barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty,’ Coleman wrote on Instagram.
