*Janet Jackson is back on top of the Billboard charts with her latest album, “Unbreakable.”
The Grio cites Billboard, which noted the singer scored a number one debut on the charts, her seventh chart-topper. With this, Jackson enters a unique position of being only the act to have number one albums in all of the last four decades.
Adding to this is the fact that Jackson stands in great company among female artists and performers, with Barbara Streisand (10 No. 1 albums) and Madonna (eight No. 1 albums) having more albums sitting at number one. Overall, Streisand and Jackson rise above the Material Girl with joining Bruce Springsteen (11 No. 1 albums) as the only three performers to have number one albums in the last four decades.
Jackson’s rise to the top came without her doing any interviews with the press to promote “Unbreakable.” The only thing she’s done to hype the album is her current “Unbreakable World Tour,” which has been going on since August, and the premiere of the music video to the album’s lead single, “No Sleeep.”
Taking another look at the Top Ten, Jackson’s good showing comes amid a quiet time for the charts, which only had three new albums on the weekly ranking. The mellow period looks to be the result after two weeks that saw the presence of seven debut albums ran in the Top Ten.
