*Jennifer Hudson has spoken very little about the 2008 murder of her mother, brother and nephew with the press. But in her November cover story for Glamour magazine the Oscar winner shares the ways in which the tragedy has impacted her life.
“It’s frustrating as hell to me to have somebody who ain’t lost nothing try to talk to me about it,” she said. “I want to say, ‘Don’t even bother, because you know nothing.’ But you never know how much you can get through until you’re going through it.”
Hudson, who is currently shooting Spike Lee’s “Chiraq,” where she plays a mother who loses her daughter to a stray bullet, says that personal loss has helped her better understand her character. The best source of healing, though, was the birth of her son David in 2009, with now-fiance David Otunga.
“I went from being an aunt, having a mom, and being a child to not having a mom, becoming a mom, and raising my own child,” she said. “I tell David [now six] all the time, ‘You saved my life.’ ”
