#BLM Activists Meeting with Liberal Billionaire Group for Funding

black-lives-matter*The #BlackLivesMatter movement looks to be reaching out to the wealthy for some major financial assistance.

Media sources cite Politico, which reports that Black Lives Matter leaders are planning to attend the annual meeting of Democracy Alliance, a secretive a group of liberal billionaires, next week in Washington. For the activists, the site notes that the purpose of attending the meeting lies in seeking funds in an effort to “[consider] ways to funnel support directly to scrappier local groups that have utilized confrontational tactics to inject their grievances into the political debate.”

Those in Democracy Alliance include billionaires George Soros, Tom Steyer and Paul Egerman.

While flags of caution are present with both parties regarding the alliance, ColorofChange.org’s Rashad Robinson sees the financial support as a good thing that can only benefit the greater good.

“Throughout our history in this country, there have been allies who have been willing to stand up and support uprisings, and lend their resources to ensure that people have a greater voice in their democracy,” he told Politico.

On the flip side, the history of Black Lives Matter protesters interrupting and calling out presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders has resulted in worry from Democratic loyalists in Democracy Alliance.

With some activists, an uneasy feeling is there regarding the notion of billionaires influencing a grassroots movement such as Black Lives Matter.

So what say you, would it be a step in the right direction for Black Lives Matter leaders to reach out to Democracy Alliance or should the movement maintain its current status without a helping hand from wealthy supporters?
