*Authorities say an Illinois officer who staged his own death to look like suspects killed him in the line of duty actually shot and killed himself.

Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko says the Village of Fox Lake was conducting an internal audit that police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz believed would lead directly to him. On Wednesday, auditors revealed the officer had been embezzling money from a youth program he oversaw, and was using the funds for porn and personal loans to his friends.

Gliniewicz was found dead with gunshot wounds on Sept. 1 after telling dispatchers he was pursuing three suspicious men – two white and one African American.  Conservatives immediately began blaming the Black Lives Matter movement.

An InfoWars article about the shooting was shared more than 3,000 times claiming that Gliniewicz was executed and that the Black Lives Matter movement was involved.

Ron Hosko, former Assistant Director of the FBI, and current President of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, penned an op-ed for USA Today the day after Gliniewicz’s death suggesting Black Lives Matter activists fostered his “murder.”

“Even when USA Today and InfoWars published these dangerous articles, absolutely no proof (or hint of proof) existed to link the death of Gliniewicz to the Black Lives Matter movement,” wrote Black Lives Matter activist Shawn King in the New York Daily News Wednesday. “He had only been dead for hours and the investigation had only started, but outrageous blame was already being placed on activists.”
