The actor has been named its 2016 recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award, given to those who have “made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment.” Last year’s honoree was George Clooney, and previous recipients include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, and Robert De Niro, among others.

“Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera,” said Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria in a statement.

Washington’s performance in “Glory” earned an Academy Award and a “Golden Globe.” He also won a Globe for “The Hurricane” and an Oscar for “Training Day.”

He last appeared in 2014’s box office success “The Equalizer” with “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua. Washington teams with Fuqua again in the remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” due in September 2016.

The 2016 Golden Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, airs live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
