*Their planning a daring 600-mile escape and fighting for their lives, families, future and freedom.
“Underground” is an unflinching story of slaves banding together. Executive produced by John Legend, the series centers on their escape from a Georgia plantation through the Underground Railroad.
This fall, co-stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Alano Miller and Amirah Vann spoke on a live Q&A panel at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, in association with the annual Freedom Awards Gala.
“Underground” presents a courageous blacksmith slave named Noah (Aldis Hodge) who organizes a small group of fellow slaves and puts together a daring plan of escape to freedom. The odds of success are razor-thin for those who make it off the plantation, while the risks, dangers and obstacles only multiply each step of the way. Aided by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad, they attempt to evade the people charged with bringing them back. The thriller depicts the greatest escape in American history and takes viewers on an extraordinary journey, one executives say will keep them on the edge of their seats.
Cast members also include Emmy®-nominated Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”), Adina Porter (“True Blood,” “The 100,” “The Newsroom”), Mykelti Williamson (“Justified,” “24”), Johnny Ray Gill (“Rectify”), Chris Chalk (“The Newsroom,” “Homeland,” “Gotham”), Theodus Crane (“The Walking Dead”), and Renwick Scott (“Treme”).
