*“Creed” started off the five-day weekend with a solid $1.4 million at the Tuesday night box office, which set an industry record for Tuesday pre-shows for the Thanksgiving weekend, reports The Wrap.
“Creed,” which Warner Bros., New Line Cinema and MGM teamed up to release, stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky Balboa’s (Sylvester Stallone) late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.
If it rakes in its estimated amount, it will beat the previous “Rocky” films, which all opened in the teen millions, except “Rocky II.” “Rocky IV,” the highest-grossing film in the franchise, opened to $19.9 million in 1985.
The $35 million boxing film currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 percent, while the previous “Rocky” films only reached up to around 73 percent, according to The Wrap. The only other film in the franchise that could match “Creed” in terms of reviews was 1976’s “Rocky,” which also currently holds a rating of 93 percent.
