Naomie Harris: Ultimate Bond Beauty and Essence Cover Girl

Naomie Harris*British beauty Naomie Harris is back as Eve Moneypenny in the 007 thriller “Spectre,” in theaters now, and the 39-year-old stunner is heating up the pages of ESSENCE magazine’s December 2015 issue – in which she dishes on her Hollywood grind and rise to stardom.

Many may not know that Harris grew up poor and on welfare in North London, and she found solace in acting after her teenage mother enrolled her in the Anna Schere Theater School. She tells the publication that she began booking TV roles by the tender age of nine.

“I always knew I was going to be an actress,” says Naomie, who landed her breakout role in Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later.” Since then, Harris has starred in hit films such as “Miami Vice” and “Street Kings,” and now her name is part of the list of beauties who have captive British Spy, James Bond.

“It’s a franchise I grew up watching, and I never thought in a million years I would be part of it,” she said.

WWD reports how Naomie recently explained what it means to be a Bond woman today, a role that has evolved considerably over the years.

“I think they have a sexual allure, I think they’re intelligent, I think there’s a magnetism about them,” said Harris, starting to tick off the qualities of the designation. “I think there’s a classic elegance about them, and a sophistication.”

She continued:

“I think the shift really started from ‘Casino Royale,’ [the Daniel Craig version] when you see Bond for the first time really fall in love and have his heart-broken by a woman — and a strong woman as well,” she explained. “In ‘Spectre’ both [Bond girls] sort of reject Bond’s help, they’re like, ‘No, I got this, I don’t need you, I can do this on my own.’ Ultimately they succumb, as most women do with Bond.”

You can grab your physical copy of Essence once it hits newsstands November 13th. As The YBF notes, Gil Robertson and Essence magazine’s Regina Robertson presented the newest Bond girl with the unveiling of her ESSENCE cover this week during the Black Women of Bond Tribute event held at the California African American Museum.
