Oscar De La Hoya Wants to ‘Bury the Hatchet’ With Floyd Mayweather

oscar-de-la-hoya-floyd-mayweather-jr*Despite the back and forth over the years, Oscar De La Hoya is ready to end his longstanding beef with Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Mayweather’s name came up in the conversation as De La Hoya went and extended an olive branch to the retired champ. In De La Hoya’s eyes, the time is right to officially put an end to their feud.

“You know what, I’m gonna give it to you. I’m gonna give you an exclusive right now. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet,” De La Hoya says. “I’m shaking, I’m getting a little teary eyed. Floyd, let’s bury the hatchet. We don’t have to be friends. We don’t have to be best friends, but let’s bury the hatchet for the sake of the sport.”

De La Hoya’s offer to squash the beef comes years after his conflict with Mayweather was set off after their last fight in 2007. Since then, the athletes have held an extreme dislike of each other.

So much so that De La Hoya was all for Mayweather retiring from boxing and hanging up his gloves, telling Playboy that the sport would be “a better one without” Mayweather’s presence.

“Truth be told, I’m not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans,” he said. “Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it.”

As it stands now, Mayweather hasn’t responded to De La Hoya’s peace offering.

So what say you? Should Mayweather let bygones be bygones and end the feud or is he better off taking a pass and letting the beef continue?
