*Amazon has released the first trailer for Spike Lee’s upcoming film “Chiraq,” and Twitter is already giving it the side-eye.
Based on the Greek comedy “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes, Lee’s film appears to be a modern-day version of the play, with Chicago’s infamous gun violence as the war.
The trailer starts with the phrase “This is an emergency” flashing six times, followed by women deciding that they are going on a sex strike until their men put down the guns: “I will deny rights of access and entrance,” says Teyonah Paris’ character Lysistrata.
Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon, LaLa Anthony, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Dave Chappelle and John Cusack are also shown in the trailer.
As previously reported, Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate are teaming up with Amazon for a limited release in theaters on Dec. 4, followed by a release on Amazon Instant Video.
