*Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith gave his first ever podcast interview to The Hollywood Reporter, in which he talks about his rise from West Philadelphia native to Hollywood Hero, and he reveals his previously unknown plans to enter politics “in the near future.”
“I’m a climber, so if I see a mountain, I have to climb it. I’m not a camper. I don’t like hanging in one place too long. So I think, at this point, I’m elevating my ability to be useful in the world. I think that that’s what my grandmother always hoped, that I would make myself useful to people in this lifetime.”
He continued:
“I’m working really hard and my storytelling is elevating, my ability to be eloquent with my body and with my voice and to deliver ideas as an actor is elevating. And, you know, as I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there. This is the first year that I’ve been incensed to a level that I can’t sleep, you know? So I’m feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way.”
Will and his wife Jada-Pinkett Smith interviewed President Obama shortly after he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in December, 2009, and the actor has expressed his interest in portraying Obama in a biopic. The president has also picked Smith as his choice to portray him because of their similarly shaped ears.
Smith’s interest in politics gives us pause, mainly because of his delusional views on race and hypocritical stance on violence in movies. As EUR previously reported, Will said most people are prejudice but very few are actually ‘racist,’ and during a roundtable discussion with THR, Smith said he passed on starring in “Django Unchained,” because: “I couldn’t connect to violence being the answer. Love had to be the answer.”
Chile, please. As one critic notes, “Smith certainly “connected” to the graphic violence in Michael Bay’s “Bad Boys” films, especially the over-the-top sequel, (and) there wasn’t any “love” in those films.”
Aren’t most of Will’s movies touched violence? Perhaps being a delusional hypocrite will serve him well as a future politician.
In the meantime, Smith’s latest film, “Concussion,” finds him portraying the Nigerian-born forensic pathologist who took on the NFL for suppressing evidence that concussions cause players long-term harm. It arrives it theaters nationwide on Christmas Day, and many speculate the role will bring Will his third Oscar nomination for best actor. He previously earned Academy praise for 2001’s “Ali” and 2006’s “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
