*As part of TNT’s NBA coverage Thursday night, commentator Charles Barkley was supposed to be promoting the upcoming 2016 presidential debate on CNN (TNT’s sibling under Turner Broadcasting) by talking a little politics.

Instead, he ended up trashing CNN over its coverage of the 2016 presidential race.

“To be honest with you, CNN has done an awful job this election. An awful job,” Barkley began. “I love CNN because they’re part of our company, but they’ve been kissing butt, chasing ratings. They’ve become like Fox News for the Republicans, to be honest with you. They follow every single soundbite to just get ratings for these debates. And it’s sad and frustrating that our company has sold their soul for ratings.”

Asked to comment on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, Barkley said his shenanigans have been “fascinating, sad, funny,” and “all over the place.”

“He started out insulting Hispanics,” Barkley said. “Living in Arizona, I think Hispanics are amazing people. To lump all the Hispanics together, that was insulting. Now to lump all the Muslims together, that’s even more insulting. This is the United States of America. This is the greatest place in the world. Do we have issues, of course we have issues. But to try to divide and conquer, which is what the Republicans always do, it’s just sad.”

Barkley also attacked Trump’s supporters. “They’re afraid to look in the mirror and say why their lives suck. …Your life sucks because of you. Not because of Hispanics.”

Barkley, who once considered running for governor of Alabama, says he’s never voted for a Republican, but is supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich this year.
