Will Smith attends The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Hosts An Official Academy Screening Of CONCUSSION on December 16, 2015 in New York City.

*Although “Concussion” is set in the realm of football, star Will Smith says the movie is ultimately about the ways in which we choose to deal with ugly truths.

The actor plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist who discovered a common type of brain damage suffered by professional football players. The film is about Dr. Omalu’s efforts to publicize his findings despite the National Football League’s attempts to deny the link and discredit Omalu.

“In talking to Bennet about it, he never could get his head around how not knowing was better than knowing; how people didn’t want to know.

“How could you not want to know the truth?”
