Part of Ronda Rousey Died After Holly Holm Loss: Sister

*Ronda Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm was without a doubt one of the most notable events to go down this year.

As the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion takes time off to recover from the loss, her sister is revealing just how devastating the upset was for Rousey, who was undefeated prior to facing Holm, according to Yardbarker.

The site referenced an article Maria Burns Ortiz wrote for Vice that examined the scrutiny Rousey encountered before and after losing to Holm at UFC 193. In Ortiz’s eyes, part of her sister “died” the night Holm gave delivered Rousey’s first defeat in the Octagon.

“I haven’t rewatched (the fight),” Ortiz wrote. “I haven’t read about it. I won’t. I don’t see a point in reliving the moment when a part of my loved one died, when I saw someone I cared about have her soul crushed.”

Although the physical attack was brutal on Rousey, who hid her injuries and was unseen after the fight, it was the verbal jabs that bothered Ortiz the most.

“I saw how horrible people can be to someone they don’t even know, which made me even more appreciative when I saw how wonderfully Ronda’s friends and family treated her,” Ortiz said. “Those are the people that matter.

“When some people reflect on Ronda and 2015, they will see it defined by a single event. They see it as the end. And in some ways, they’re right—but that only means we’re at a new beginning.”

Ortiz’s comments come amid reports of the imminent rematch between Rousey and Holm, which will likely take place at UFC 200. Rousey has stated that if she loses again to Holm, it will be the last we see of her in the Octagon.
