*Sandra Bullock is enjoying motherhood the second time around as she opens up about fostering and adopting her 3½-year-old daughter, Laila.

People reports the little girl is from Louisiana and was in foster care before Bullock adopted her.

“When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” the 51-year-old Oscar winner, who adopted her five-year-old son Louis in 2010, said in an interview for this week’s issue of People.

“I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time,” Bullock adds.

According to Bullock, it was Louis who helped lead the way in her beginning to expanding three years ago.

“Louis spearheaded this whole journey,” she says.

Although Louis and Laila (pronounced Lyla) have formed an inseparable bond, Bullock admits patience and plenty of reassurance were required during the first stages of bringing Laila home.

“I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” she says of her daughter, who has brought “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”

News of Bullock adopting Laila comes as she works to highlight the 415,129 children currently in foster care in the U.S.

As for the playful dynamic she shares with her two children, Bullock summed it up saying, “My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding. That’s a family.”
