“Everyone’s jaws dropped as Star jumped on a table in the middle of the room to perform a go-go routine that would have made Lady Gaga blush,” said the spy. “As her dancing got wilder, security asked her to step down for her own safety and the safety of others.”
Her rep commented, “In the immortal words of Cyndi Lauper, ‘Girls just want to have fun.’ ”
Jones has been relatively quiet in recent years – keeping a low profile despite her knack for courting controversy occasionally. The lawyer/journalist appeared on the ABC weekday morning talk show “The View” from 1997 to 2006. In February 2006, she discovered that her contract would not be renewed for the following season, and that Rosie O’Donnell would replace her. She told People Magazine that the decision to leave was not her own: “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the 10th season… I feel like I was fired.”
Star was also one of sixteen contestants on the fourth installment of “Celebrity Apprentice,” coming in fifth place. Additionally, Jones was a red-carpet host for E! back in 2005, conducting interviews at awards shows until the network decided not to extend her contract after one year.
Jones also served as chief legal analyst on Inside Edition, where she led the coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder case. She was the only reporter to interview Simpson during his civil trial, which she covered for American Journal.
In a September 2007 essay in Glamour magazine, Jones put to rest longstanding rumors and curiosity about her weight, confirming that she had indeed undergone gastric bypass surgery in August 2003, resulting in a loss of 160 pounds over three years. Prior to the confession, she was heavily criticized for her initial dishonesty, claiming that she had lost weight via diet and exercise.
Star Jones married banker Al Reynolds in November 2004, and they announced their divorce four years later.
