*This week has proven to be one of ups and downs for Tyrese Gibson.
According to TMZ, the singer-actor was victorious in a legal battle over a woman he said tried to take advantage of his mother.
On Monday (Dec. 7), a judge ruled in Gibson’s favor in the case, which stemmed from a book Cynthia Banks wrote about his mother and her struggles with alcoholism. Banks sued Gibson, who didn’t support the book, for defamation after he publicly shamed her.
Although Banks initially won a judgment in the case from Gibson not responding, the “Furious 7” star ended up fighting the decision by filing papers to have the judgment tossed. The effort proved to be a win for Gibson, who traveled to Dallas for the verdict, as Banks lost the case, which would’ve seen him pay her $83,000.
Gibson’s court victory comes amid him receiving two Grammy nominations this week for his hit single “Shame.
Despite this, Gibson’s time and energy has been with his mother, Priscilla Murray, as he’s reportedly been at her bedside the last few days at a Los Angeles area hospital. Gibson’s mother has been critical condition and on a ventilator, theGrio reports.
Taking to social media, Gibson posted an appeal for prayers for his mother, along with a picture of him holding her hand, wit the following caption:
“Praying over every breath she takes….. Our family needs you like never before….. Our beloved mother – she’s all we have… #PrayerWarriors we welcome your most sincere prayers….”
Gibson’s connection to his mother is a close one, in light of Murray raising him by herself in the Watts section of LA after his father left them when Gibson was six-years-old.
