Year of The Slut: Why Hate on Ayesha Curry? She Just Wants Black Women To Stop Dressing Like Skanks

The signs these two misguided young women are holding say it all

*My boss, Mr. Lee Bailey, asked me to write this story without using inflammatory language.

“Keep it PG,” he said sternly. “Most of my readers are female, and I don’t want you to offend them with your abusive rhetoric.”

It wasn’t an easy pill to swallow, but I figured taking his advice could make my story more palatable to a female audience. So here it goes…(ahem) Ladies, if any of you have a problem with Ayesha Curry’s perspective that women should dress with modesty and self-control in public, then I’m assuming you lack self-respect, dignity, and more importantly, common sense. In other words, I’m calling you a whore. That’s right, you’re a filthy, classless, tasteless, disgusting, poor excuse for a woman. In Texas, women who wear provocative clothing to gain attention from the opposite gender are referred to as “penis-wranglers.” Okay, that’s not true, but it should be.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest (and believe me, it wasn’t easy playing the “nice guy” role), I’m going to crank up the heat just a bit to really drive my point home. (Ahem) Once again, social media has provided black women with a platform to make complete fools of themselves. On this occasion, the foolishness emerged after Curry posted a series of “tweets” encouraging women to cover the intimate portions of their bodies while in public. In response, thousands upon thousands of enraged black women (or as I like to call them, “the nigger brigade”) flocked to Twitter and maligned Curry, calling her self-righteous and judgmental.

Okay…wait…let me get this straight…black women have a problem with Ayesha Curry telling them to dress appropriately in public? Seriously!? That’s beyond stupid. Sisters, when you go out in public, you aren’t representing only yourselves, you’re representing your community. When you leave the house wearing practically nothing, it’s reflects poorly on you, your families, your neighborhood, and your ancestry. This does nothing to neutralize the misnomer that women of color are all booty and no brains. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not asking you to dress like Mother Theresa. But until recently, society would wag its finger at women who let everything “hang out.” This is quickly changing, and it’s not a good look.

“When black women look in the mirror, they don’t like what they see,” explains psychologist Shari Bryant. “The media tells them they aren’t pretty. Society ranks them beneath other racial groups, particularly white women. As a result, black women tend to embrace the body parts that sit below the head and neck. They wear clothing that will emphasize the parts of their body that they deem attractive to the opposite sex. They flaunt booty, not beauty.”

She continued, “In the music industry, it’s less common for a white female artist to get on stage with her private parts hanging out. They tend to dress more conservatively and their music isn’t trashy and full of sex, sex, sex. On the other hand, I have seen Nicki Minaj and Beyonce exploit their bodies time and time again for attention, fame and wealth. It’s definitely sending the wrong message to people who already question the intelligence and sophistication of black women.”

The prevailing counter-argument for Curry’s admonishment was that women shouldn’t feel ashamed of expressing their sensuality in public, even if it makes them look like second-rate hookers in the process. I was particularly disturbed by how unattractive most of the women were who attacked Curry. “If anyone should be covered up, it’s these bitches,” I thought to myself. (That reminds me ladies, if you look like the female version of Ving Rhames or Michael Clarke Duncan, it’s probably best for you to cover-up with those bedsheets that Middle-Eastern women are known for wearing). Failure to conceal unattractive body parts, like a protruding belly, should qualify as visual terrorism.

Yuck!

I almost fell out of my chair after reading some of the hateful, misguided comments aimed at poor Curry. The outrage she caused (inadvertently) was comparable to the way people react when they read stories about the beheadings of American POWs in Iraq.

“Why are these foolish women ganging up on the ‘light-skinned b*tch’ [Curry]?” I asked myself. “Aren’t they aware that men DO NOT respect women who dress like $2 dollar strippers?”

I couldn’t fathom why there was so much hatred spewed in Curry’s direction for promoting the idea that women should exercise tact and decorum when they get dressed in the morning. And then I remembered, according to Khloe Kardashian, “ratchet is the new classy.” This ridiculous mode of thinking inspired Amber Rose’s slut walk in October, and it’s causing impressionable young women to objectify themselves without feeling an ounce of shame or remorse. If this continues, the black community will eventually produce more teenage mothers than college graduates.

In one of her messages, Curry refers to her sexual organs as “goodies” and says they are reserved exclusively for her husband’s viewing pleasure. This comment is about a G-rated as they come, and yet, it provoked the ire of numerous so-called feminists who accused her of promoting the idea of women submitting themselves as property to their husbands. But wait a minute, where’s the chauvinism in what Curry said? Is she wrong for pointing out that married women should be conscious of how they present themselves in public? It’s not a matter of ownership. When couples decide to get married, it’s with the understanding that both individuals will conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate for the relationship. What kind of message would a married woman send to others if she was seen walking in public dressed like a two-bit prostitute? More importantly, why wouldn’t someone in this position have more respect for her significant other? This is why feminism isn’t feasible for a woman who wants to preserve a healthy relationship with someone from the opposite gender. There are certain rules of marriage that must be followed to ensure longevity, success and happiness for the parties involved, which includes being mindful of your appearance to avoid sending mixed-messages to strangers (unless that’s your motive).

At the end of the day, whether you’re single or married, black or white, dumb as a box of rocks or a Rhode scholar, it’s in the best interest of all women to safeguard their dignity and reputation. Ayesha Curry might be out of touch with the current trend of salaciousness in women’s fashion, but that doesn’t make her a prude, it makes her a lady.
