*GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson disagrees with recent comments made by Stacey Dash, suggesting that BET and Black History Month only perpetuate segregation and need be eliminated.
“If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET, and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” she said last week on “Fox & Friends.” “If it were other way around, we would be up in arms.”
Dash went on to call for the end of Black History Month.
“We’re Americans. Period. That’s it,” she said.
“Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy asked her if she meant that America shouldn’t observe Black History Month because there isn’t a comparable celebratory month for white people. She responded, “Exactly.”
On the BET special #AllVotesMatter, fellow conservative Carson expressed a different take on Black History Month.
“At this point in time [Black History Month] is important. If we didn’t have a Black History Month, there are a lot of things we wouldn’t talk about,” Carson said. “I mean [without Black History Month] there’s a whole bunch of people that we probably wouldn’t talk about and we need to talk about them. Not only in the black community, we need to talk about them in every community in America. Everybody needs to understand that the greatness of America has a lot to do with contributions from everybody.”
But then…Ben Carson became Ben Carson again by ending his statement with: “Our ethnic diversity is not a problem unless we make it a problem.”
Over the weekend, BET also checked Dash with a series of tweeted pics and clips from a marathon of videos featuring the actress that were once in heavy rotation on the network — all with the hashtag: #NeverForget.
