Chris Rock: ‘Oscars, The White BET’ [Watch]

Chris Rock*While many black celebrities and black social media followers are reacting with shock and outrage over a repeat of #OscarsSoWhite, Chris Rock is offering a bit of comic relief – because most are aware that unless blacks are playing slaves, sluts or thugs, Hollywood does not shower them with praise and accolades.

Jada Pinkett Smith has had a lucrative 20+ year career in Hollywood and now she’s suggesting black Hollywood boycott the Oscars because no actors of color were nominated for an award this year. Her man Will Smith wasn’t nominated for his hyped up role in “Concussion” – a shock to many.

The fact that no black performers were nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor or Best Supporting Actress for the second year in a row sparked Twitter users to resurrect the hashtag and trending topic #OscarsSoWhite.

Jada took to Twitter to express her outrage over the 2016 Oscar nominations:

“At the Oscars . . . people of color are always welcomed to give out awards . . . even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments,” Smith wrote. “Should people of color refrain from participating all together?” “People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, J,” she concluded.

To co-sign Jada, while there may not be any black folks nominated, no doubt there will be a few black presenters along with this year’s host comedian/actor Chris Rock. He also took to Twitter to joke about the lack of diversity and to share a promo video for the awards ceremony. Check it out below.

“The #Oscars. The White BET Awards,” he captioned the post.

Following the release of his first documentary, 2009’s “Good Hair,” Rock is working on a documentary about debt called “Credit Is the Devil.”

The 88th annual Academy Awards will take place Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. on ABC.
