da brat (dish nation)

*NEW YORK – “Dish Nation,” the nationally syndicated entertainment news program, names Da Brat as co-host on the Atlanta-based team, announced Stephen Brown, EVP of Programming and Development, FOX Television Stations.

Da Brat began guest hosting this summer alongside Rickey Smiley, Headkrack, Gary with da Tea, Rock T, and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s,” Porsha Williams.

In making the announcement, Brown stated, “We are very excited to have Da Brat officially join the ‘Dish Nation’ team. Having been a celebrated rap artist for over two decades, Da Brat brings an authentic voice to the world of entertainment news. Once she began guest hosting, we knew right away we had to make her a permanent member of the Dish family.”

Da Brat added, “Since the first day I filled in on ‘Dish Nation,’ it felt comfortable and there was a natural chemistry. The amazingly talented personalities that I’m surrounded by every day make me thrive to be better. I am so grateful that Rickey Smiley gave me the opportunity to do his morning show and ecstatic to be a part of the ‘Dish Nation’ family. I’ve had an incredible career since 1994 and I feel like it’s just the beginning all over again.  Thank you ‘Dish Nation’ family!”

Da Brat, born Shawntae Harris, has been a well-known rapper since 1994, when her debut album Funkdafied went platinum and made her the first female solo rapper to sell one million units. Most recently, Da Brat made a guest appearance on FOX’s “Empire” as an inmate from Cookie’s past. In addition to joining “Dish Nation” this season and becoming a permanent co-host on “Rickey Smiley Morning Show,” Da Brat is a regular on the TV One reality show, “Rickey Smiley for Real.” She has done several remixes with both Mariah Carey and Missy Elliott, including, “Always Be My Baby,” “Loverboy,” “Sock It 2 Me,” “Heartbreaker,” and “Honey.” In 2011, she did a remix of the Chris Brown song, “Look At Me Now” featuring Jermaine Dupri. In 2007, she was featured on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” and prior to that, VH1’s “Surreal Life.” Da Brat got her big break in the music business when she won the grand prize in a local rap contest sponsored by Yo! MTV Raps in 1992.
