Ga. State Senator Desires to Rename Road After Creflo Dollar

Creflo Dollar*Creflo Dollar’s impact on the community has apparently motivated a Georgia state senator to campaign to rename a road after the megachurch pastor.

On Monday (Jan. 25), State Sen. Donzella James, D-Atlanta, introduced Senate Resolution 805, a proposal aimed at renaming Old National Highway between Highway 138 and Interstate 285 as the Creflo Dollar Highway, WSB-TV reports.

Adding to this is the fact that Dollar’s church, World Changers Church International, is in James’ district and has been part of the College Park community for 30 years.

“I would love to see a Creflo Dollar Highway,” James, a strong supporter of Dollar, told Channel 2’s Matt Johnson while noting that the church leader has done more good for the community than his reputation may suggest.

To hear James tell it, Dollar deserves having a road named after him after his years of service in the community.

“This is a church that’s doing things in the community to make things better,” James said.

Although she recently joined World Changers, James admits that has nothing to do with her efforts to rename the road. Instead, she says her constituents asked her to honor Dollar in this way.

“So many people have requested this, not even people who go to World Changers,” James told Johnson.

James’ proposal comes after news surfaced last year about Dollar and other church leaders asked World Changers followers to raise $65 million for a top-of-the-line luxury Gulfstream G-650 jet.

Although she is determined to get part of Old National Highway renamed after Dollar, the effort has resulted in disbelief among some of those who reside along the road. In their eyes, someone else is more worthy to get the honor than Dollar.

“Oh Lord have mercy, good God almighty, Lord no,” one man told Johnson. “He’s not meeting the whole community needs in order for this right here to be named after him.”

“He might impact the people who go to his church but not like College Park or Old National as a community,” another person told Johnson.

Dollar isn’t the only person James has made an effort to honor, Last year, she got approval to name a portion of Atlanta’s Spring Street as the new Gladys Knight Highway.
