It’s a New Year … Have You Started on Your Vision Board?

New-Years-Eve-Sedona

*Here it is. The time when we make promises we know we won’t keep. Say things we know we don’t mean. And do things we know are not good for us.

Last year many of us said things like, “I am not going to allow any unnecessary drama into my life.” We vowed to “go to the gym at least twice a week and eat healthier foods.” We said we would “stop judging others,” and stop “sweating the small stuff.” But in spite of all those promises we made to ourselves, here we are.

With little to show for it.

But here’s the thing. There is still a light at the end of the tunnel. And we are one year smarter. We’ve been here before, but this time, if we choose to ignore our own truth and repeat the mistakes of the past, we have no one to blame for it.

But ourselves.

You see the bottom line is, and always has been: when we are truly ready for things in our lives to change, NOTHING can stand in our way.

A good way to begin the paradigm shift in our own lives is to recall some of our past successes (not failures). And don’t think of someone else’s description of what “success” is…only yours. Remember when things turned out right?  Don’t downplay the part you played in that; the contribution you made to the successful outcome. You gave up something: Time, energy, money, advice, guidance. You may have stood your ground on a controversial issue; checked your ego at the door for the sake of the bigger picture; humbled yourself…sincerely.

Truth is, we get caught up sometimes, and that is what leads us astray. Instead of taking things one day at a time, we lose momentum and tire ourselves out by thinking about “how long” it may take to “get there.” Instead of being realistic in our goals (not to be confused with staying inside your comfort zone), we set ourselves up for failure because we don’t think things through based on our resources, and what we are willing to do to get there.

Sure, we have all had plenty of examples to show us what we DON’T want. The kind of people we DON’T want to be. The kind of lives we DON’T want to live. And focusing on those things, well, how’s that working out for you?

You know you deserve better. Is this the year you actually start believing it? Do you have a vision of your life…the one you say you want?

Close your eyes and picture it. Now get busy designing it.
