*With being one of the hottest rappers out with packing seats for concerts, it shouldn’t be a problem for Kanye West to perform in front of people.
But from the looks of his audition for the final season of “American Idol,” there may be an exception. The question is: Will Ye impress judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. enough in the singing competition to get that golden ticket to Hollywood?
“My name is Kanye, I’m from the southside of Chicago. Originally a producer,”” the 38-year-old rhymsayer says as he introduces himself as a surprise guest to the judges. “I always wanted to rap, but nobody really believed in me.”
“I hope that works out for you,” Urban deadpans, while Lopez wishes him “good luck with all that.”
As for what song West will perform, he simply tells the judges that he “just wanted to do something original” while teasing that “It has one of the judges’ names in it,” according to ET Online,
“Okay, let’s see,” an encouraging Lopez tells West, adding under her breath, “It better f——- be me.”
As all West sweats it out in his audition, his wife, Kim Kardashian, waits outside the door with “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest. At the time, the reality TV star was still pregnant with her and West’s second child, Saint.
“I didn’t give any advice on singing or rapping,” she tells Seacrest, crossing her fingers. “Just, you know, I hope they really believe in him.”
So how did Yeezy do?
When it was all said and done, he did get his golden ticket. The “original” tune that won West a trip to Hollywood turned out to be a verse from 2005 classic hit
Turns out Lopez had nothing to worry about, regarding a judge’s name being in the tune. As one who’s heard “Gold Digger” can attest to, the singer and her famous backside are noticeably referenced.
Upon getting approval to proceed to the next round, an excited West threw up his hands and shouted, “I can’t believe it!”
