Obama, Lamar Meet in Oval Office – Miguel Proposes to Girlfriend of 12+ Years

obama-kendrick*President Obama solidified his admiration for rapper Kendrick Lamar by inviting him to the White House where they chopped it up about a variety of topics, according to Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett who related the story of Lamar’s visit with Buzzfeed.

“You know what the president said to him,” Jarrett said. “[Because Lamar] was a little nervous — bless his heart, he’s really a very nice young man, and the president said, ‘Can you believe that we’re both sitting in this Oval Office?'”

Lamar’s visit occurred in October, when he was in Washington to perform at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra. Photos from his meeting with the president were shared in a new video promoting the Pay It Forward program, which encourages the mentoring of inner city youth, with the rapper opening about his conversation with Obama, per Billboard.

“I look at where I’m at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life,” Lamar says in the Pay It Forward video. “I sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views. Topics concerning the inner cities, the problems, the solutions, and furthermore embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives.”

Miguel, Nazanin+MandiMeanwhile, R&B crooner Miguel and his girlfriend of more than 12 years, Nazanin Mandi, are engaged.

“… When you get all dolled up but decide to stay in … Eat … And watch A Haunting Thank you for the Trim @1littlemonster @carltonhairmdr,” Mandi, 29, captioned an Instagram of herself on January 11, in which she flashes her giant diamond ring.

During an interview with Hot 97 last May, Miguel explained that marriage wasn’t something he wanted to just “throw” around, US Weekly notes.

“I think it’s more about working. The thing is, you got to know who you are as a person, first of all. I think I’ve come so far as a man and I’m just starting to feel solid where I can be like, ‘You know what? I think I can hold this down legitimately.’ I think now people throw things around like marriage,” he explained.

“I just wasn’t raised like that. I just follow my instincts. I think she’s learned that and she’s had to adjust and had to learn and also embrace. And I love her more for that.”
