*CBS will reimagine Antoine Fuqua’s acclaimed 2001 drama “Training Day,” that starred Denzel Washington as a rogue narcotics detective and Ethan Hawke as his rookie cop partner. Fuqua will direct the series and executive produce, with Will Beall penning the script for Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

The TV series is set 15 years after the film left off, and finds the rookie cop as black and the corrupt older cop as white. In the new Training Day, “an idealistic young African-American police officer is appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with a seasoned, morally ambiguous Caucasian detective,” per Deadline.

“Training Day” earned a little over $100 million at the global box office, against a $45 million budget. Fuqua said he wanted the film to look as authentic as possible, “so he shot on location in some of the most infamous neighborhoods of Los Angeles,” including the Imperial Courts housing project. It was the first time L.A. street gangs allowed cameras to be brought into that neighborhood.

The film earned mostly positive reviews from critics, and Washington’s performance as a corrupt cop earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor at the 74th Academy Awards. His co-star Ethan Hawke was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as the rookie cop.

Fuqua is currently directing the upcoming Western/crime film “The Magnificent Seven,” a remake of the 1960 western film of the same name, which was a remake of the 1954 Japanese film “Seven Samurai.” The film will reunite Denzel and Ethan Hawke, and also feature Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Luke Grimes, Haley Bennett, Matt Bomer, and Peter Sarsgaard. It’s set to be released September 23, 2016.

Antoine most recently received a warm response from critics for his 2015 boxing drama “Southpaw,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, and Rachel McAdams. Naomie Harris replaced Lupita Nyong’o in the role of Angela Rivera. Eminem executive produced the soundtrack, which was released by Shady Records. The film grossed $90.9 million globally, against a budget of $25 million.
