*MAC Cosmetics recently posted a pic of Aamito Lagum who just happens to be a dark-skinned model with full lips.
She was modeling a stunning new lip color from MAC called Matte Royal, but now the company has to create a campaign to counter the hate the photo received.
It seems that racist flooded MAC’s website with derogatory and negative statements aimed at Lagum.
“Nigga lips?,” one user commented, while another likened her lips to “fish lips.” Yet another user wrote “Holy shit I thought this was Jay Z.”
Meanwhile, Yaba Blay, Instagram user @fiyawata, started the hashtag #PrettyLipsPeriod to uplift both the model and women around the world to celebrate the fullness of their lips.
MAC Cosmetics eventually addressed the haters in an Instagram post stating, “M·A·C stands for and respects All Ages, All Races, All Sexes. We celebrate the beauty of individuality, and the confidence to be who you are.” The hashtag, which has quickly spread from Instagram to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, is an uplifting call for not only #BlackGirlMagic but #BlackExcellence everywhere.
