Spike Lee Likes Bernie; Endorses Sanders in Radio Ad (LISTEN)

*Looks like Bernie Sanders is picking up steam in the endorsement department.

Earlier, we brought you news of the Democratic presidential hopeful being endorsed by Professor Cornel West.

Now comes word that Director Spike Lee is solidly in Bernie’s corner. In fact, he’s gone so far as to record a radio commercial for Bernie to be used in the Vermont senator’s campaign in South Carolina.

“Wake up! Wake up, South Carolina!” the director says in the advert, borrowing a line from his movies “Do the Right Thing” and “School Daze.”

The spot continues:

“This is your dude, Spike Lee. And you know that I know that you know that the system is rigged! And for too long we’ve given our votes to corporate puppets. Sold the okie-doke. Ninety-nine percent of Americans were hurt by the Great Recession of 2008, and many are still recovering.”

In the radio ad, Lee goes on to mention that Sanders was a part of the 1963 March on Washington with Martin Luther King Jr. and added that the senator was once arrested in Chicago “for protesting segregation in public schools.”

“He fought for wealth and education equality throughout his whole career. No flippin’, no floppin’. Enough talk — time for action!” Lee added.

The new spot was released just days ahead of Saturday’s Democratic primary in South Carolina.

Spike Lee previously endorsed President Obama during his 2008 and 2012 campaigns.
