Stephen Curry Says Retired NBA Player Criticism is ‘Annoying’

Stephen-Curry *Say what you will about Stephen Curry, but he’s without a doubt one of the best – if not the best – NBA players shooting hoops nowadays.

But, as always, there will be critics, something Curry has taken in stride. Yet, when the jabs come from retired NBA players about defeating his team, it can be a little “annoying.”

Commenting on the current Warriors, Vibe referenced a recent ESPN radio interview in which  Oscar Robertson voiced his belief that the former Warriors from the 2006-07 season could beat the present team amid the belief that basketball isn’t as physical as it was in the past. As a result, the advantage goes to the old Warriors who Robertson said would be able to defeat Curry’s squad.

In addition, former Warriors player Andrew Bogut took aim at the current Warriors by telling the San Jose Mercury News that his team in Melbourne, Australia could take on the NBA champs.

Weighing in on the criticism this week, Curry initially approached the comments lightly. Although he mentioned that his team doesn’t mind the remarks, Curry told Bay Area News Group podcast “Warriors Plus/Minus” that the comments aren’t needed now.

“When you hear, honestly, legends … kind of come at you, it’s kind of just weird,” he said. “It’s starting to get a little annoying just because it’s kind of unwarranted from across the board. We have a very competent group, and we have fun when we’re out there on the floor, and it shows, obviously.”

Rather than dwell on what was said, Curry mentioned that the Warriors’ focus should be on the present.

“We enjoy what we do,” the NBA all-star said. “But for the most part, you don’t hear us talking about, you know, comparing ourselves to other great teams and ‘We could beat this team, we’re better than this team.’ We’re living in the moment.”

The Warriors’ and Curry’s present-day focus is obviously paying off as the team enjoys a 52-5 record. Curry stood out again on Saturday night when the Warriors defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-118. The win elevates the team’s record to 53-5.

From beating the buzzer with nailing a three-pointer 30 feet out to win the game with 0.6 seconds left in overtime finishing the game with 46 points to tie the NBA single-game record of 12 three-pointers, it was a good night for Curry, who also broke his own NBA record for threes in season, now at 288, and helped the Warriors secure a spot in the playoffs faster than any other team in history with their latest win. All this after an ankle injury caused Curry to be out for several minutes in the third court.

That’s a true competitor for you. No question.
