*Steve Harvey thought it would be cute to host some sort of decepti-date segment on his show, where he attempted to hook up two rude and superficial twin sisters with two “unattractive” men.
The women didn’t know that the men they were set up with were successful, so when both sisters passed on getting to know the men further, Steve revealed that they missed out some potential good-good loving because they chose looks over potential.
Let’s pause for a minute and reflect on the following truth: most men are superficial when it comes to women. Many are all about looks or long hair and light skin, and many more won’t give a women a second glance if she doesn’t have a big butt. So while Steve was attempting to encourage organic relationships this week in honor of Valentine’s Day, his social experiment involving how superficial some women can be failed.
Peep the clips below, in which Steve sets up two sisters from Atlanta on dates with two men that meet all of their qualifications, expect for Steve’s added twist of giving the illusion that they aren’t as attractive as they are in ‘real life.’
Per Jet magazine:
“Let’s get super realistic up in this piece. Men are known to judge women on looks. Maybe your boo will eventually get to know your good heart, unselfish nature or rocket scientist IQ, but here’s betting he didn’t approach you at the coffee shop because he sensed these awesome qualities.”
In part 1 of the segment, Steve sets up the sisters with the two men, one has a hole in his afro and the other has a mole on the side of his head. In part 2 of the segment, the ladies continue the date and begin vetting the men, asking questions about their earning potential, the size of their homes… ya know, the type of questions asked by “women on the come up,” per Straight From The A.
If Steve’s intentions were pure, then he would have selected two virtuous black women to use his social experiment – not these two vibrant clowns. Better yet, why not get two white women to set up with these men? After all, aren’t the brothas who live to swirl always going on about how white women are the only people on the planet who truly accept black men and all their flaws, shortcomings and criminal records?
This writer is inclined to believe that Steve just wanted to embarrass black women on national TV, and continue to propagate the lie that only we are superficial and gold diggers.
