*As folks get reeducated on and celebrate black history this month, a group of kids have taken it upon themselves to share how important the occasion is to them as they respond to Stacey Dash’s out there comments about Black History Month.
The “Clueless” star generated a ton of hate and headlines after she advocated getting rid of Black History Month and BET in an effort for black people to be inclusive of all races.
“If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” Dash said during an appearance on Fox News “If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard […] Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re American, that’s it.”
Weighing in on Dash’s comments, the kids opted to use intelligence and wit to express how they feel about Black History Month, Vibe reports. While some of the children asked if Dash’s request was even legal and wondered whether or not Kanye West is aware of what his former “All Falls Down” video co-star’s said, the kids were all together in showing how excited they are to celebrate their culture.
“It forces us to talk about our amazing history and it didn’t begin with slavery, no negativity, no stereotypes, all excellence because that’s who and what we are,” the kids said in a 60-second video.
“We’re not cancelling anything, so you have to rock with us for 29 days,” they later added.
