*Angela Robinson star of Tyler Perry’s “The Have and Have Nots” on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network, discussed her diabolical character to ABC Radio Networks contributing producer Karu F. Daniels, and revealed that her performance as the homophobic and manipulative Veronica Harrington, upset one fan so much, the woman physically assaulted her.

The drama series is set in Savannah, Georgia, and follows three families and their lifestyles as they intersect with one another: the rich and powerful Cryer and Harrington families (dubbed “The Haves”) and the poor Young family (dubbed “The Have Nots”). Robinson’s character is a cunning attorney married to Judge David Harrington, and her convincing portrayal as the villainess makes fans want to come after Angela in public.

“There are very few characters like Veronica: truth tellers, smart, educated, a little bit cray-cray and also she has an ability as a woman of a certain age to still be sensual,” Robinson told Karu about her role. “All of that usually doesn’t come in one package in television or in film today.”

The actress, who appeared on an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” said she didn’t have to involve the authorities when a lady approached her one day and smacked her in the back.

“This one lady actually hit me,” she revealed. “[They] usually come and yell at me but this one lady came and slapped me. It was in the back,” she clarified about being hit. “When I said slapped me, somebody thought it was in the face. I would’ve been calling the police.”

Angela also explained the incident in a 2015 interview: “Well, I’ve had someone hit me once. (laugh) It was okay. It wasn’t really violent. It was just really jarring at the time. This lady just came up to me and slapped me in the back and said, ‘You just going to have to do better.’ I was like, ‘With what?’ ‘With your child, and I said, ‘I don’t have any children.’ I think because of the huge success of reality TV people think they’re real people. It’s scripted.”

Last year, Robinson received the Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor-One to Watch, an honor that celebrates programming created for women, by women, and about women.

The season finale of “The Haves And The Have Nots” airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
