‘Bad Boys 3′ Set + ’23 Jump Street’ & ‘Men in Black’ Crossover Happening

Bad Boys 3*Sony has pushed back the release of “Bad Boys 3,” which was originally slated for February 2017 – will now hit theaters next June.

The film will open against Warner Bros.’ upcoming comedy film “The House,” starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. Joe Carnahan will direct the action sequel, which is expected to feature the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

During an interview last month on BBC Radio 1 about “Concussion,” and “Independence Day: Resurgence,” Will told host A.Dot that, after meeting with Martin Lawrence for the first time in years, he  “Bad Boys 3” is “definitely” on the way.

“I saw Martin a few weeks ago,” Smith said. “I haven’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We’re definitely doing another one.”

“Bad Boys” was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Michael Bay. It centers on two hip detectives who protect a murder witness while investigating a case of stolen heroin. The film was commercially successful, grossing $141,407,024 worldwide. “Bad Boys 2” was also directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and follows the same detectives investigating the flow of ecstasy into Miami. It grossed over $250 million worldwide.

In related news, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s cop movie “23 Jump Street” will be a crossover film with “Men in Black,” in which Smith co-stars with Tommy Lee Jones but neither actor will return to the franchise as younger actors will reportedly replace them.

The idea of marrying both franchises into one film came to light during the Sony hack crisis in 2014 when a leaked email from former co-chair Amy Pascal revealed information regarding Hill’s involvement in the project. The plot details of the film are under wraps.

Meanwhile, “Bad Boys 3” is currently scheduled to open in theaters on February 17th, 2017. “Bad Boys 4” opens July 3rd, 2019.
