*Hmm. Is somebody trying to horn in on the Oscars controversy news cycle to get some attention or is this really a legitimate issue?
We’re talking about Public Enemy member Professor Griff who’s not amused that PE’s “Fight the Power” was used in Sunday’s Oscar telecast during the opening of Chris Rock’s stinging monologue about Hollywood racism.
“The show can’t claim the blackness of Public Enemy’s message,” the 55-year-old Griff told TMZ.
He also thinks the Academy used the controversial song to temporarily appease protestors. Ok, now that it’s out there, inquiring minds want to know why THAT song was used. Here’s what Oscar music supervisor Byron Phillips told Entertainment Weekly:
“[We wanted to] really set the tone for what the night was going to be and do something that was representative of Chris, and who Chris was, and the vibe and tone Chris wanted to set for the evening. There was obviously nothing more perfect than ‘Fight the Power’ for that.”
Makes sense to us, too. So we have to wonder if Professor Griff is barking up the wrong tree or is he just trying to get some Oscar shine?
