*“American Idol” had a moment Thursday night when contestant La’Porsha Renae had judge Jennifer Lopez in tears and everyone within earshot in awe of her performance of Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.”
The emotion started with the video package that ran before her live performance, when La’Porsha revealed that she’d been in an abusive relationship, escaped with her baby to a shelter, and decided there that she would do something to change her life – audition for “Idol.”
After the show, “Idol’s” in-house mentor Scott Borchetta talked about urging La’Porsha to do the song: “I’m like, ‘You should really do this.’ And it’s so emotional, it’s so right on point to her life story. She killed it in rehearsals. She came up to me an hour before the show and said, ‘I don’t know if I can do it.’ And I just gave her a big hug and I said, ‘Just get lost in it, do what you need to do.’ And, oh my God, another amazing La’Porsha moment tonight.”
